Long before Garrett became my co-author, I burned out on my business and just wanted to focus on my family.

I told my husband, “Garrett’s still passionate about this, and the work he’s done takes our message to a whole new level. He’s also got the energy to do the media appearances.  I don’t care what kind of recognition I get; what if we just put his name on The Jackrabbit Factor and let HIM be the one to get it out there?”

But after all three of us discussed it together, what ended up happening next was the LAST THING I expected…

Here’s the whole story:

If you didn’t already know, Portal to Genius is the sequel to The Jackrabbit Factor.

I learned so many things after releasing The Jackrabbit Factor in 2005 that if I was going to write Jackrabbit Factor over again, I’d change a few things – because my understanding of the laws of success and principles of prosperity had changed and expanded.

In fact, what I’ve learned leaves me 100% certain that I will never learn all there is to know in my lifetime – because just when I think I’ve got everything figured out, there’s inevitably something more for me to learn.

How exciting is that??

Nothing brings me greater joy than to learn, grow, live, and love more perfectly and completely – and each challenge I face reminds me that I still have a LONG way to go.

That’s good news – because it tells me that life will never need to be dull or boring.  What an adventure this is!!

So anyway, near the end of 2008, Trevan (my husband) and I visited with Garrett Gunderson at our home while he was in town on other business, and I was at a point in my life and business that I felt overwhelmed like I had simply taken on too much.  We knew that what Garrett had created in his business pretty much amounted to “Jackrabbit Factor 202″ – upper level training for those who embrace the foundational principles in our book.

As I struggled to juggle our business and raise our seven children, torn between the passion that drives me to share these principles as far and as wide as I possibly can, and the passion that drives me to shut the world out and just do something simple like clean a toilet, read a story to my pre-schooler, learn a new recipe, or organize our family photos… I searched for a way to effectively do both.

A Bit of Fun Trivia: When Bob Proctor mentored us in 2006, he emphatically said, “Leslie, you’re conflicted.  There’s conflict all over these goals of yours.”

“I know, I know!”  I replied, but I just didn’t know what to do about it.

To deal with my inner conflict, I ran in one direction until my attention was needed back in the other direction; and swinging one way and then the other, back and forth, back and forth, I made some progress.

Sharon Lechter (co-author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad and my guest for an upcoming teleclass) put my mind at ease one evening when she essentially said that “balance is bunk”.  In other words, stop seeking perfect balance in your life, because just as when you are solidly balanced on both feet, you can get NOWHERE.  You’ve got to shift your balance back and forth, or you can never swing the other foot forward to advance in the journey!

That was a powerful visual for me.

So, back to Garrett… as he visited with us in our home, I was in a swing away from work and business.  As much as I loved what I was doing, I was burned out and needed to get back to greater focus on my family.

I was almost ready to say, “Garrett, you’re passionate about this stuff, and you’ve got the energy to do the media appearances, and the team to support the growth.  I don’t care what kind of recognition I get, what if we just put your name on The Jackrabbit Factor and let you be the one to get it out there?”

But what came out of that meeting was another idea.  Both Trevan and Garrett agreed it was time for a sequel.  I wasn’t sure I was ready to write another book – I always figured I’d wait until my two-year old was in college first.

But finally, (I’m not sure where I found the strength to agree to this, but…) we decided to team up and create the sequel together.  He knew I was overextended, so he encouraged me to utilize his team.  He even let me use his cabin to work on it – and his counsel and perspective was the most valuable piece of all.

So I took the lessons we were learning from Garrett and I set out to weave them into the sequel.  Garrett advised me on how the principles work and apply in the corporate world, and we both felt strongly that at every level, they really work best when you’re setting goals in alignment with your soul purpose: your combination of gifts, talents, and the unique contribution you were meant to make in this world.

I set an intention to complete the sequel before January 1, 2009 (less than 2 months later).  I did not relish the thought of spending two years like I did on the first book.  I’d give this one a solid two weeks in the middle of December where I would stay at my mother’s house and give it my complete focus.

Certainly, I thought, when a person is “in the flow”, ideas can come rapidly; and so long as I have any say in the matter, that’s how I plan it to go for me now.

Well, January 1st came and went.  I hit a major writer’s block.  Part of my frustration came because I knew I needed to write the book, but I had no clue how this one would end.  With The Jackrabbit Factor, I knew the end from the beginning.

But with this one, I had no ending in mind – I didn’t even know what would happen in the middle.  I just got started and then  opened my mind to see where it would take me.

Goal achievement is like that sometimes.  You may have a general idea of what you want to accomplish, but sometimes all you can do is get started, and have the faith that the way will reveal itself as you go.

At various intervals, I met with Garrett again to discuss the story and inevitably, when I was stuck, he saw with clarity what should happen next.  There were other times when he was assigned to work out the details of a certain chapter and he was the one to get stuck.

The unfolding of the story certainly didn’t come the way I originally planned.  But I learned it’s important to adapt and adjust according to the challenges and roadblocks that come.

At the time that I had writer’s block, in a quiet moment an impression hit me very clearly that said, “You cannot write the ending of this story, because you haven’t lived it yet.”

The impression took me by surprise, but I thought, “Okay, then.”  So I put the book aside and just lived.

There’s more I have to tell you about this, so I hope you’ll join us for our Virtual Book Tour with Alex Mandossian on March 10, 2010.

As described in The Jackrabbit Factor and more completely (and extensively) in Portal to Genius, we all have access to that little voice in our heart that nudges us in the right direction to to do exactly what needs to be done, and become all we were meant to become.

Some people call it a gut instinct thing, some people call it an inner voice, some call it the Holy Spirit, or Spirit of God.  Whatever you want to call it, it’s there for you, as you strive to live correct principles, and if you listen carefully, patiently, and especially if you’re willing to follow it when it comes.

The more you listen and follow, the more it will show up for you. It can take some practice recognizing it and trusting it, but it’s worth the effort.

If you’re experiencing information overload, it will be difficult to identify the right things to do, because all the “noise” will crowd out your own best adviser: that inner voice.

Need help sifting through all the information you don’t have time for, but which feels too important to put aside? Read my previous post called: Too Much Information?

One leader named Richard G. Scott has taught that those quiet thoughts often come when you are the most still, the most peaceful; so it’s important to keep a notepad and a pen next to your bed – because when the ideas come, they come quickly, quietly, and are just as quickly forgotten if you don’t write them down.

Here’s the story of the missionaries who followed his advice and received a strong impression to prepare, about 2-3 weeks before they experienced the 8.8 earthquake in Chile on February 27, 2010:

Are You Teachable?

A few years ago I hired a marketing coach to help me with my websites. At the time, my sites were generating somewhere around a whopping $29/month. Not nearly enough to even cover the expenses of running an online business.

At the time, we were generating sales offline through our events and book sales, but I really wanted to take my message online and reach more people quicker, and more automatically. I knew the information I had to share would help families all across the world create better lives for themselves and their children, so it was time to hire a coach who could help me do that.

Now, I know that there’s a lot of good information out there that would have helped me accomplish my goal, but I needed someone who could walk me step-by-step through whatever I needed to learn and implement, and I found Charlie Cook.

I hired him to coach me for three months, so we talked on the phone once a week and I spent every spare moment I had implementing his recommendations.

After implementing just a fraction of what he suggested, our sites began generating a predictable $4000/month.

Think about this: I spent a few thousand dollars to hire him.  Was it worth it?  Do you see how an investment in your mental capital can yield tremendous dividends?

I hadn’t talked to him in a few years, so I recently sent him a message of gratitude, to give him an update on what’s happened with our businesses since then. He responded with a gift that he’s letting me share with you, because he knows I’m in the business of teaching you how to be successful in whatever it is you’re wanting to do, too.

So if you have a business, or if you’re thinking about starting one, be sure to download his FREE ebook that will teach you the marketing secrets you need to know in this new economy.

We recently noticed a post in the forums from one of our FTMF participants worth mentioning, because it’s a great example of the Law of Polarity in action.   She writes:

My husband overlooked a tax [that was] supposed to be paid for [on] an income of about 20K. Having learned the law of polarity, I thought there must be something good in this. Indeed, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise even if we had to hire an accountant to sort it out and pay him about 1K. Instead of having to pay for probably between 5K-7K in taxes, the taxman gave us back about 10K. It’s amazing how things have worked out! Now, each time something so bad happens, I always expect a great blessing.

My husband noticed her story and here was his response:

Thank you for the great example of the law of polarity in action. As you know, “To think truth in spite of appearances” is the hardest work in the world. You did exactly that, when you refused to believe that the circumstance was ‘bad’.

To everyone else: From the stickman, remember that this was just data coming in- not good or bad until Cessy assigned meaning to it. She rejected thoughts of lack, loss, and negativity, and chose to assign good meaning to this apparently negative data. I would venture to suppose that she didn’t apply any feelings of anxiety over the situation, but instead, got excited about the good that was invariably on its way – not in spite of, but because of her chosen reaction.

Good work!

Today he’s agreed to share an extremely personal story, and by the time he’s done you’ll understand why I’m so excited to introduce the two of you.

I’ll copy what he told me here below, so he can share the story with you in his own words.

Enjoy!

Here’s Kevin…

Late last year I was in New Jersey visiting my friend Joseph, when he made two comments that completely changed the direction of my life.

We were sitting at Rojo’s Roastery in Lambertville, New Jersey having a great conversation about business, and
enjoying one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had.

We’d been talking about our recent successes, and sharing our visions for the future of our businesses with each other.

And that’s when it happened.

That’s when Joseph made a comment that I’ll never forget:

He said, “You know Kev, while I don’t have specific numbers to back this up, I’m willing to bet that only 1 in 10,000 people ever get to experience the kind of lifestyle that you live.

You have this business that fits in perfectly with the lifestyle you’ve chosen to live.

It pays you more than most people could even imagine, for doing something that you love doing anyway.

It lets you drop EVERYTHING at a moments notice when your family needs you.

It puts money into your bank account, even when you’re on vacation.

You get to spend the majority of your time, hanging out and rubbing shoulders with some of the most inspiring
people in the world.

Your entire business has been designed so that you get to enjoy every minute of every day, from the time you
get up in the morning, until the time you lay down at night.

What you’ve done is nothing short of amazing.

You’ve literally created your own Lifestyle-Business Blueprint, and now you’re living that life on a daily basis”.

Needless to say, his words REALLY made an impact on me, because, until then – it never even dawned on me that
that’s what I’d accomplished.

But he was right.

And as our conversation continued, he made the second life-changing comment.

He went on to say, “Kev, your greatest contribution to others hasn’t even been conceived yet. It’s still inside of you… and you need to let it out. The way that you’ve been sharing and interacting with other people over the last several years has made a big impact, but the fact is, you’ve barely scratched the surface of what you were put on this earth to do.

You need to adjust your focus, and begin sharing this Lifestyle-Business Blueprint with as many people as you
possibly can”.

And like I said before, I knew Joseph was right, but as I began to talk with more and more people, I became
firmly convinced that sharing this blueprint with you was the right thing to do.

So… let me tell you why I’m so excited about this.

Trevan and I have been learning a LOT from a couple of guys named Rich and Ron and I know you’re going to love them. They’re teaching us specific principles applicable to what they call “bootstrapping” a business, and it’s made a huge impact on our success already.

I’m telling you, mindset is everything! And these guys know “mindset” for successful business. They’ve built nearly 30 businesses from next to nothing… and have had some failures and some amazing successes – and we get to learn from their experiences in the trenches!

What is Bootstrapping? One way to describe it might be: building a really profitable business, starting with very little money.

When you register, you’ll be provided with the information on how to access the recording. (Because this teleseminar event  already took place.)

You’ll learn:

1) WHAT is the bootstrap mindset?

2) HOW does an entrepreneurial candidate discover if he/she has what it takes to bootstrap?

3) WHY is embracing failure so important to the “bootstrap” mindset of entrepreneurship?

4) WHY is idea creation so important to “bootstrapping” and HOW can it be accelerated?

5) There are certain tools you use to filter or prove your business ideas. What are the tools? How do they work? Why do you use these particular tools?

6) WHY is the Zig Zag principle so important to boostrapping success and HOW does it work?

7) WHAT does “climb high, sleep low” mean and WHY is it critically important to living in balance?

8 ) What does “crossing the line of balance” mean?

Bootstrapping is for:

  • Those working in the corporate world who want a venture on the side
  • Those who want an exit from the corporate world by growing a business
  • Those in a position to bring a few thousand dollars to their dreams
  • Those who already run their own business, who need help achieving their potential
  • The working class who desire to break the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck
  • Those who have the entrepreneurial bug and need structure and direction

More about “Bootstrapping”:

The Principles Taught Are Applicable to All

Any determined individual can employ the principles presented in “Bootstrap Business” and find success. The concepts are not specific to any one type of business and can be applied to small, private businesses or to technology-driven startups. The information is full of solid principles to help you create honest, long-lasting value, whatever your field may be.

Novice Bootstrappers Will Save Millions of Dollars

The wisdom and practicality of this information will help beginning business owners navigate the big issues: taxes, partnership agreements, scaling, and hiring, to name a few. There is no simple checklist to follow for making money or how to avoid losing money. Instead, a certain mindset and philosophy are required in order to make informed decisions. “Bootstrap Business” provides insight into that mindset as well as actionable guidance one needs to follow to avoid the big mistakes while developing a winning posture.

Business Owners Will Learn Principles and Practices They May Be Missing

There are huge numbers of existing small business owners who will greatly benefit from “Bootstrap Business”. This information was initially developed for startup entrepreneurs but have found that small business owners are the most vocal audience requesting this information. Many of the potholes small business owners must navigate on a daily basis are addressed. Issues such as how to scale a business, how to compete with larger companies, and how to manage cash flow are at the heart of their message.

Seasoned Entrepreneurs Will Nod in Agreement

Experienced entrepreneurs will embrace this information because it helps them better communicate the fundamental concepts they have experienced. It will provide them a structure and framework with which to build their future endeavors.

See you there!

Pros / per / i / ty ~

– noun: a successful, flourishing, or thriving condition, esp. in financial respects; good fortune. Also encompasses wellness in one’s health, relationships, spirit, mind, etc. In short, life success.

Have you ever met someone whose finances seem to be falling apart and they’re happy anyway? Have you ever wanted to say, “Hey, what on earth do you have to be happy about?? You’re supposed to be miserable and depressed about your finances!”

There are those who are simply in denial, to be sure, and who hope that the problems will go away if they just ignore them. However, there are others who feel happy even when things are going down because they know a secret. They understand the 7 Laws of Success. Let me explain…

These people feel happy during a downturn because they know the ride never goes downhill forever. By law, it always turns upward again at the bottom – just like on a roller coaster.

They smile now because they’re focused on the longer term; and they’re already thinking about the joy of the heights that life will take them to next.

Now, while we’re on this “roller coaster theme,” imagine you’ve saved for years to take your family to an exciting theme park on the other side of the country. You’ve pictured the laughter, the fun, the memories you plan to create: the joy of being together, the food, the free time… it’s all so very wonderful!

Now it’s finally time to take that trip. You enjoy a relaxing plane ride, settle in at the hotel, spend the night, and in the morning you have a full day to take in all of the theme park attractions.

After entering the gate, you notice that just inside the entrance there are two roller coaster rides to choose from. The first one is called “Straight-Shot to Success” and goes like this:

You get on, and it pulls the line of cars all the way to the top of a twenty-story tower where it ….

… lets you off so you can climb down the stairs to do it again.

Look at the level of enthusiasm the people in this picture are demonstrating, just before unloading to climb down and repeat the experience!

Actually, that would make for a pretty boring roller coaster ride. But in life, isn’t that what we often think we want: A steady, predictable, safe and easy climb to success? In truth, if that’s what we ended up with, we’d be pretty dissatisfied with the whole experience.

So, let’s take a look at the second roller coaster ride called “Joy in the Journey,” which instead goes something like this:

You get on, and it pulls you to the top of a big hill and then turns you loose into a series of ups and downs, loops and turns. Everyone is terrified and laughing, all at the same time.

Even when the people plummet at break-neck speeds straight toward the ground, they have a smile on their face.

Now, is that twisted, or what? Are they in denial?

No. They are genuinely enjoying themselves, because they know that the terror is temporary, that it is an illusion, and that it will come to an end. They know that in truth, they are in a controlled, safe environment that is simply giving them the appearance of danger. Deep down, they know everything is going to be okay in the long run.

Which roller coaster ride do you think would have the longest waiting line? “Straight-Shot to Success,” or “Joy in the Journey?”

I choose the latter. Here’s what helps me endure the scary parts:

Believe it or not, like a roller coaster ride, Life itself is a safe environment, even with all its dangers. Contrary to appearances, it truly is a safe place to be. From God’s vantage point, the things we fear are nothing to Him, including death itself.

Do you realize that the life you live is precisely the life you would have chosen all along? THIS is the life that brings you the greatest joy: the life with all the ups and aggravating downs. Be grateful for your downs… and as you allow your heart to swell with gratitude, you’re putting yourself into the right mindset to receive the best “ups” that God has to offer.

In reality, the ups and downs we experience are provided in order to help us feel. The change from up to down (or down to up) is precisely what makes it possible for us to recognize the difference from one emotion to the other. Without the downs, the ups would be meaningless. The lows help us feel and appreciate the highs.

Bob Proctor says, “Most people tiptoe through life, trying to make it safely to death.” Do you see the irony in that? Instead, we should have courage and press on toward our dreams with full, fearless intention.

Fear not!

As Mark Twain said, “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.”

You have a choice of what to think about. So think on the expected highs that put a smile on your face, instead of worrying about the imagined train wreck at the bottom of the hill that hasn’t even happened yet.

It is only when your heart is at peace that it is prepared to receive inspired solutions to your problems.

So, if you’re headed in a downward direction, be at peace. The tracks are bent and will surely guide your rollercoaster car up to the top again in time. It’s going to be thrilling! And in fact, by the Law of Rhythm, you’re already on your way.

"One Way"

Learning to consciously apply the Law of Attraction for a better life is just like learning a whole new language. At first, with every intention to communicate your desires perfectly, everyone makes mistakes. It’s happened to me: what was intended to communicate my desires clearly has often turned into something that I never intended at all.

But that’s okay… it’s part of the learning process. Think about it: Imagine going to a Spanish speaking country with nothing more than a rudimentary understanding of the Spanish language and an English/Spanish translation handbook. (I tell people all the time that I can speak Spanish: Ta-co Bell, Burrito, Chimichanga, Enchilada…)

So you arrive in the foreign country and climb into a taxicab. You open your book and intend to tell the driver, “I want to go someplace quiet and beautiful where I can feel the spirit of God.” So word by word, you search your translation guide and say, “Deseo ir en alguna parte tranquilidad y hermoso donde puedo sentir el alcohol del dios.”

The driver, who is a native of the country hears, “Desire to go beautiful tranquillity somewhere and where I can feel the alcohol of the God.”

Where do you think he will take you??

When you end up at a saloon, you might look at your book and throw it away saying, “This Spanish language doesn’t work!!!”

Do you know anyone who has been introduced to the principles of prosperity through “The Secret” or other tools, made an attempt to live according to the guidelines and then throw it all away because the “tool” didn’t work?

Maybe you’ve also thought about giving up.

Realize that the language of faith is just that: it is a language… of the spirit. It takes time to develop fluency. It takes time to understand the cause and effect of thinking, feeling, and acting in a certain way.

When things don’t go the way you expect them to go, accept the results and simply learn from them. Take the lessons that are available in every challenge and let them work in you so you can get closer to your goal the next time.

Don’t throw away the principles that you know deep down are true, even if the results you get aren’t what you intend them to be. When you end up at a saloon instead of a beautiful botanical garden, it wasn’t because the “book” or the “language” didn’t work! It actually worked perfectly.

Let me give you an example. For a long time I had a goal statement that said, “Money comes to me frequently and easily from multiple sources in increasing quantities on a continual basis. People want my products; God helps his children through me.”

After about a year of this I realized that the part, “People want my products” is exactly what I was getting. Thousands of people wanting something I have doesn’t exactly translate into revenue.

That’s when I changed my statement to more accurately reflect my true desire: “People buy my products; God helps his children through me.”

See the difference? It’s a language thing. We communicate our desires and receive what we ask for. “Ask and ye shall receive” is a true principle. But this language of faith that we are trying to learn comes from a culture that is part of our divine nature, but something we have temporarily forgotten. In God’s world, when we ask for increased faith, He doesn’t necessarily give us faith, but opportunity to excercise our faith. When we ask for financial freedom, He doesn’t give us piles of money but opportunity to develop a growing income.

The more fluent we become in His language of faith, the more peacefully we will grow toward accomplishing all we desire.

As explained in The Jackrabbit Factor, that is why a person who sets a goal to lose weight can very easily end up with more pounds than where they began. It is also why a person who focuses so much on getting out of debt may very well end up with more debt than they ever expected. (Read The Jackrabbit Factor for a deeper explanation on this topic.)

It’s all because we learn the language of intention one concept at a time.

I’m jumping the gun and risk looking foolish… but it’s brought us a few laughs and we’d like to share the fun.

(I’m just much too excited to get the Spanish version of Jackrabbit Factor out to a whole new group of people who couldn’t read it before!)

Please note: We’ve had the book professionally translated, but in order to give our Spanish readers a place to retrieve it, I had quickly create a special webpage just for them. Instead of waiting for the completion of the professional translation (which is in the works), I thought I’d just do what I could for NOW so that the site could be somewhat ready for visitors in time for THIS Ezine/Blog post.

Using the Altavista Babelfish online translation tool, I did my best. For those of you who know Spanish and would like to have a good laugh, come check it out! http://www.jackrabbitfactor.com/espanol.php

If you don’t speak Spanish, here’s an example of the lingual mess I created:

English: “Don’t worry, the book was translated professionally. We’re sorry for the translation errors on this webpage!”

Translated to: “No se preocupe, este libro fue traducido al español profesionalmente. ¡Estamos apesadumbrados para los errores de la traducción en este Web page!”

Which actually says something like: “One does not worry, this book was translated the Spanish professionally. We are grieved for the errors of the translation in this Web page!”

Even better than that, here are a few of my glowing testimonials. Wouldn’t these comments make YOU want to read my book? (LOL)

“Within a pair of weeks I received the promotion to the director and an important increase of the pay… To Harper”

“I tripled to my retired rent and my husband of its work of the day… To say the information is to change of the life would be an underestimation! Thanks! – Marnie”

“… we will double really to our rent the east next year. Thanks, Leslie, to share these principles… CREALMENTE WORK! What excites more to me, is than there is no limit to which we can reach in the future! Thanks again! It smooths H”

Alas, we are grieved for the “errors of the translation.” We believe they will be corrected within a day or two. Until then, feliz lectura! Please invite your Spanish-speaking friends to get a copy in their own language at no charge! http://www.jackrabbitfactor.com/espanol.php

Now, this whole experience has made me think about the principles of prosperity in a whole new light. Learning how to consciously utilize the Law of Attraction in my life has been like trying to learn a new language. An underdeveloped understanding of Spanish may be enough to get me to the bathroom in a Mexican restaurant south of the border, but it may not help me when I need to navigate my way through town in search of a post office.

An underdeveloped understanding of the Law of Attraction may help you accomplish something on one level, but a continued study of the “language” and practicing it often is what may be required to re-invent the most significant aspects of your life. Setting goals and applying the Laws of Success haphazardly can create confusion in the Universe, the same way an underdeveloped understanding of Spanish can get you unexpected or disappointing results with the taxi driver.

Keep learning, keep studying, and keep practicing!  You’ll get there!
